Academy of
Friends has been in existence and evolving
for nearly 33 years. Soon after the onset of
the HIV epidemic, we dedicated ourselves to the
mission of working to ease the burden of this disease through the raising of
funds in support of direct care for those with HIV/AIDS and educational
programs to prevent infection. As the pandemic grew, thus did our scope; to help
“…where the need is greatest, until the crisis has passed.” Through our annual
Academy Awards Night Gala, we have raised over $8.5 million to support more than
72 HIV/AIDS service organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Dancer Chad Stewart was just one
of the highlights at the annual
Academy of Friends Oscar viewing
party Sunday, February 24 at
Terra Gallery. AOF board Chair
Howard Edelman said that this
year's party was "comfortably
full" with about 700 guests and
200 volunteers. "The Academy
Awards show was fantastic and
our own show following the
awards was incredible," Edelman
said, adding Latrice Royale and
Pandora Boxx of RuPaul's Drag
Race were the featured
performers while local drag
celebrity Daft-Nee Gesundheit

(PAWS).
